In 2016 husband-and-wife team, Chris and Nicole leased a kitchen space to cook meals for their nonprofit children's feeding program. However, upon discovering that the space was being used only as a commercial kitchen and not open to the public, the landlords concern presented them with an ultimatum: if they wished to continue using the space, they needed to transform it into a restaurant or event center open to the public. The landlord's belief was that a restaurant would generate more foot traffic, helping the entire shopping center. Little did they know that this ultimatum would pave the way for the birth of SouthSide Steak & Cakes- The Cheesesteak Trap.
What We’re Known For
Steak & Cakes quickly garnered a reputation for their Texas Cheesesteaks, dry rubs, wings, fried desserts and a distinctive line up of beverages and snacks. They redefined the cheesesteak with nontraditional twists and a menu infused with hip-hop culture, creating a vibrant, welcoming vibe.
The Experience
Beyond great food, the restaurant became a gathering place for warm southern hospitality—where individuals, families, friends, and coworkers come together to laugh, listen to music, play table games, and unwind like a kick back.
More Than a Place to Eat
In 2021, Steak & Cakes expanded as a concessionaire at the State Fair of Texas. In 2022, they earned the Big Tex Choice Award for Best Sweet. A powerful blend of awards, influencer praise, and word-of-mouth has driven their rise.
